As temperatures begin to dip, your energy bill usually begins to rise... Here are a few tips to help you winterize your home to reduce your energy bill.
- Caulk gaps in windows and doors—Be sure to caulk any gaps in windows, doors, and even siding. Warm air can escape and cold air can enter your home if you do not fill these gaps.
- Use weatherstripping tape—You may want to try weatherstripping tape if you notice drafts coming from your windows or doors. Weatherstripping tape can help reduce drafts and air leaks.
- Be sure to replace your filters—Make sure to change your filters frequently... When your filter is dirty your furnace has to work even harder to heat your home.
- Clean out the gutters—Clean your gutters of debris and make sure that water will be able to flow easily through them. This will help avert the possibility of icicles and ice dams from forming.
- Increase insulation—It's a good idea to check your insulation each year... as time goes on, your insulation can weaken so you may need to add more insulation.
- Check your fireplace—It is a smart idea to make sure your flue closes all the way and to check to see if you can feel any air coming in when it's closed.
